I specifically remember the day I whipped up this bright and yellow juice. I was jumping for joy that my best friend (aka the sun) had come around after a long and dreary hibernation. If I don’t have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) I’m riding that fine line. I feel so energetic, happy, and full of life when the sun is out. I don’t care how cold it is outside, as long as the sun is out and about, I’m A-Okay.
For our honeymoon, my husband and I went to Palm Springs, California. We had rented a country club house from a couple that my husband golfs with. The house was gorgeous, spacious, and the view from the bedroom was just straight up paradise. You could see a couple of busy duck ponds, a pool, palm trees, and an abundance of greenery. Green errrthang. I remember waking up every morning, opening the curtains and just surrendering myself to the sun. Nothing compares to the organic warmth of Mr. Sunshine. I woke up every day in the best of moods (and I’m no morning person let me tell you). I started to ask my husband “Why don’t we live here?” I could not believe people actually lived here and experienced this rejuvenating feeling every morning. I was so extremely jealous. However, I then realized that Californians probably did not experience that grateful sensation every morning. They live there. They are most likely used to it and after a while it probably feels like any other day. This realization pained me. I then imagined myself taking the sun’s presence for granted if I up and moved to Sunny California. I was legit bothered by this thought. It made me fearful of the thought of moving somewhere so precious if I ever had the urge or opportunity. My husband reassured me that I wouldn’t hypothetically succumb to the disregard of Cali’s sunshine if we were to live there. I think I believe him. I honestly change vibes like a light switch when the golden star is bright and confident.
The return of the long awaited rays in Winnipeg inspired the radiance of my Sunshine Juice blend. I was at one of my favourite stores, Vita Health, and I bought some organic turmeric root. It was my first time experimenting with the actual root itself so I wanted to make something super healthful and delicious. Turmeric is the ultimate warrior of super foods, I even wrote a whole article on all of it's amazingness and how we can include it in our daily lives [here]. I decided I was going to go home and juice this powerful little healing nugget. And alas, here is the long awaited recipe.
- 1 cucumber, peeled
- ½ of one small pineapple
- ½ of a lemon
- 1 inch turmeric root
- Thumb sized piece of ginger root
- ½ cup of water (coconut water would also be fab)
- Place all the ingredients one by one into your juicer and juice away!
How does the lack of sunshine affect you guys? What do you do to try and get those sunshine vibes going when they are missing? I make sure to take my Vitamin D3 supplements and eat/drink lots of bright colours!
