Living a health conscious lifestyle does not mean restricting ourselves of our favourite guilty pleasures. A life full of positive thinking, mindful eating, regular exercise, and getting enough beauty sleep always has room for those occasional indulgences. Whether it is french fries, ice cream, pizza, or a boozy beverage that makes you weak in the knees-go for it as the happiest of people are proven to be pursuing their lives with one very powerful mantra in mind; balance.
Summer is the season of balance. It is that eventful time of year where we all come out of hibernation (in Canada anyway-minus 40 degree temperatures turn us all into hibernating hermits) and become fluttering social butterflies. Barbeques, weddings, showers, birthdays, camping trips, weekends at the lake, and all those fun annual local festivals offer us plenty of opportunities to participate in this whole “balance” bit. It also never seems to fail that we ourselves, have at least one event where we are to be that hostess with the mostess. Well don’t worry my friends; I have got your back. No matter what occasion you are planning-it will be a guaranteed flying success so as long as you serve these Ginger Peach Paradise cocktails.
My taste buds have changed tremendously over the years. Whenever I am out I always end up ordering wine as I can no longer tolerate those sweet and sugar laden girly drinks that always sound so magnificent. Due to the fact that I miss out on all of these fancy coconut and fruity concoctions served at restaurants and lounges, I am that much more inspired to create my own at home.
Seeing as how peaches are undeniably heavenly during summer, I just had to incorporate them into my mouth-watering masterpiece. The combination of the peach juice, the lemon juice, the ginger, and the basil made the creation so flavourful that water was the only mix needed for this plant powered punch. I chose vodka because it is my personal poison of choice and it is the chameleon of all liquors. It is light, translucent, and has very little taste or aroma giving beverages a subtle (and sometimes sneaky) spike. This Ginger Peach cocktail can easily be made into a mock tail by omitting the vodka and maybe adding a splash of club soda, fresh juice from another perfect peach, your favourite brewed and chilled tea, or even kombucha (which would make this beverage an ultimate gut healer). Ginger Peach Paradise Cocktail
*Makes 1 large serving
½ of a juicy peach, sliced in wedges
¼ of a lemon, sliced in wedges
1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, chopped
1 Tbsp. fresh basil, chopped
1.5 Tbsp. organic cane sugar* (or any other all natural sweetener-use Stevia to keep it sugar free)
1 cup crushed ice
1 cup water
1.5 oz. vodka
Optional: extra ingredients for garnish
Place all prepared plants (peach, lemon, ginger, and basil) into a cocktail shaker with the cane sugar poured on top.
Muddle the mixture with a long spoon until the ingredients are close to being all pureed.
Add the crushed ice, the water, and the vodka and shake well.
Pour into a large glass, garnish, and enjoy!
Feel free to make this seasonally by swapping out the peaches for your favourite fruit that is currently on the shelves. Pomegranates or apples would also taste amazing here! Get creative and let me know what success stories you come up with...if you can remember ;)
